Abstract

This work details the modeling and geometric optimization of angular distribution
measurements for the 10B(n,d)9Be reaction conducted with a laboratory neutron generator and a ΔE-E
silicon telescope. The primary goal was to establish an optimal experimental window that ensures clean
separation between the 9Be ground and excited states while minimizing measurement time. A mathematical
model for the total full width at half maximum (FWHM) was derived by combining detector resolution, target
energy straggling, and angular-geometric broadening factors. Our simulation results identify the precise
target thicknesses and detector distances needed to prevent peak distortion. The proposed methodology
enhances both spectral resolution and counting throughput, providing practical guidelines for executing
highly efficient differential cross-section experiments under restricted laboratory conditions.
